A Delicately Light Wool Shawl

After finishing a few thicker projects, I wanted to knit something lighter — something soft, airy, and simple. This shawl knitted in wool yarn became the perfect project for quiet evenings and cups of tea.

The yarn I used was pure wool, thin and slightly rustic, but with a beautiful softness once knitted. It feels almost weightless on the shoulders, yet warm enough to wear during the first chilly mornings of winter.

I chose to keep the design minimal — just rows of garter stitch, letting the texture and natural color of the yarn speak for themselves. The rhythm of the stitches felt calming, and the fabric grew slowly, flowing through my fingers like a gentle breeze.

When it was finally finished, I lightly blocked the shawl to open up the stitches and give it that soft drape. The result is something I know I’ll reach for again and again — easy to wrap around my neck, or to throw over my shoulders while reading or knitting something new.

There’s something special about working with fine wool yarn. It connects you to tradition, to patience, and to the beauty of handmade simplicity.

I knitted with 9 mm needles, and followed this pattern.
